Christopher Nuttall, author of Bookworm, wrote a guest post last week on the Alternate History Weekly Update. Called An Introduction to Bookworm, it starts with the question: “What sort of society would form if one group of humans was notably superior to the others?” Starting with the observation that human history doesn’t provide an encouraging answer to this question, he goes on to discuss the world he has built for the story in Bookworm. Of course, in the world of Bookworm, the superiority is based around magical ability. As ever, it’s fascinating to see the thoughts and work that go into the background material that a conscientious writer like Christopher prepares, in order to give his stories depth, credibility and consistency.
