Say you love a book you have just read that was published by a small press. Or, an independent publisher. Or, even self-published. It happens. Do you put it on the shelf and move on to your next book?

And, here, I thought you said you loved it.

If you love a small press, indie or self-published book, share your love with the world. Write a review for Amazon: all it takes are a paragraph or two saying you love a book with descriptions of one or two things that you loved about it (and, of course, the all-important star ratings). Share your review on Goodreads. Share it on Facebook. Share it on Twitter. Share it on Pinterest. Share it on any other social network you happen to be a part of.

You can do this for major releases by well known authors too, of course. However, keep this in mind: major authors don’t usually need the support because their publishers have enough resources to promote the hell out of them. Small press, indie and self-published authors do not have this and, as a result, rely on a small number of promotions and the word of mouth of fans to help them sell books. Small books really live or die by the support of their fans.

Share your love of unique and original writing – it’s the best way to guarantee that there will be more of it.
