Post The Creative Process is an Endless Source of Fascination

I’m terrible at naming characters, so I will grab at any straw I can when I have to. Take the main character of Welcome to the Multiverse, Noomi Rapier. The inspiration for her name was Noomi Rapace, the lead actor in the original version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo; she was in the news a lot when I started writing the novel. Add a touch of creative licence, and there you go. Character named.

It occurred to me a couple of days ago that Noomi was a brilliant choice of name. Why? Because in four separate chapters of the novel, she meets a different version of herself, somebody who has either made different life choices or was born into a very different world. In short, in each chapter, Noomi meets a “new me.”

Strange things happen in the process of creation that a writer isn’t aware of. I wonder what else is to be found in the novel…
